Autism Connect is a non-profit and purpose-driven organisation dedicated to supporting children on the autism spectrum and their families through specialised education, therapeutic support, and inclusive development programmes. Our Early Learning Centre focuses on building strong foundational skills in a structured, nurturing environment.

 

Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Assistant Teacher / Learning Support Facilitator to support learners with autism in our Early Learning Centre. This role is ideal for someone with practical, hands-on experience in autism support who is passionate about early childhood development and inclusive education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the lead teacher in daily classroom activities and structured learning programmes
  • Assist in implementing individualised learning plans (IEPs)
  • Apply autism-specific strategies such as visual supports, structured routines, and basic behaviour support techniques
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to learners
  • Assist with classroom preparation, organisation, and maintaining a structured environment
  • Support learners with communication, social interaction, and daily routines
  • Work collaboratively with the teaching team and therapists

Basic but essential Requirements

  • Relevant qualification or studying towards Education, ECD, or Special Needs Education
  • Experience working with children on the autism spectrum (formal or informal)
  • Basic understanding of autism methodologies (e.g. structured teaching, visual schedules)
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in a structured and supportive environment

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience in an Early Learning Centre or similar setting
  • Exposure to autism-specific approaches (ABA, TEACCH, methodology )
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the field of special needs education
  • Reliable, proactive, and passionate about working with children

Remuneration

  • Salary ranges from R4,000 , and up per month (entry-level), dependent on experience and qualifications
