Creative Art Facilitator / Art Teacher

Autism Connect is seeking a creative, compassionate, and enthusiastic Art Facilitator to join our Early Learning Centre (ELC) and Skills Centre team.

Position: Creative Art Facilitator / Art Teacher
Location: Autism Connect , Strandfontein, Mitchell’s Plain , Cape Town
Employment Type: Part-Time
Reporting to: Program Leads for the ELC & Skills Centre

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

 

The Art Facilitator will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging art and creative expression programmes for autistic children, youth, and young adults. The successful candidate will use art as a tool to promote creativity, communication, sensory exploration, emotional expression, confidence, and skill development in a supportive and inclusive environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

• Design and facilitate creative art sessions for learners across the Early Learning Centre and young adults at Skills Centre.
• Introduce a variety of artistic mediums including drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts, mixed media, and sensory art activities.
• Adapt activities to accommodate different developmental, communication, and sensory needs.
• Encourage creativity, self-expression, and confidence through art.
• Support the development of fine motor skills, concentration, social interaction, and emotional wellbeing.
• Prepare lesson plans, materials, and creative projects aligned with programme goals.
• Organise learner art displays, exhibitions, and community showcase events.
• Maintain a safe, organised, and inspiring creative environment.
• Work collaboratively with educators, therapists, support staff, and families.
• Monitor participation and progress and provide feedback where appropriate.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

• Qualification in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Art Education, Creative Arts, Occupational Therapy, Early Childhood Development, or a related field.
• Experience working with children, youth, or individuals with disabilities.
• Understanding of autism and neurodiversity is highly advantageous.
• Strong creative, communication, and facilitation skills.
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual needs.
• Computer literacy and administrative skills are advantageous.

We pay a market related daily rate , this position is an Independent service provider
